Qualifications

• 1 year of histopathology, cytology or other laboratory experience.
• 1 year of experience handling PHI and other patient information using a Laboratory Information System (LIS).
• 2-3 years of laboratory experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepares and organizes samples for testing, e.g., sample racking, aliquoting and tube preparation.
• Labels, handles, processes or prepares, and transports and stores specimens.
• Identifies sample problems and helps resolve them; demonstrates problem solving on service and production issues.
• Prepares testing equipment and assists with preventive maintenance; notifies staff of equipment problems.
• Assists licensed personnel (CA only) or delegated supervisor in pre-analytic and post-analytic testing activities.
• Prepares reagents and controls; submits documentation to approve use.
• Maintains records of reagents/media and stores supplies; rotates stock.
• Sorts and accessiones specimens into LIS and delivers to testing platform/department.
• Performs data entry or transcribes results to computer for data reduction and review.
• Tallies workload data and prepares reports; assists quality control procedures.
• Prepares protocols/logs or other documents; identifies specimen problems and escalates when needed.
• Trains other Lab Associates and supports training programs; contributes to process improvement.
