Job summary

MercyOne Health System, part of Trinity Health, is hiring a Lab Assistant for a full-time day shift. The role supports a range of laboratory departments, performing specimen collection and processing to ensure accurate testing and timely reporting.

Responsibilities include venipunctures and specimen handling, LIS data entry, and adherence to safety and quality standards. A high school diploma or GED is required, with preference for lab experience.

Qualifications

• Laboratory experience and knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
• Strong computer skills with the ability to learn new systems and tools quickly.

Responsibilities

• Performs venipunctures, finger sticks, and heel sticks appropriate to patient age and follows policy.
• Accepts specimens and requisitions from internal and external customers and manages add‑on orders.
• Identifies patients and specimens using two identifiers and labels correctly.
• Registers and logs specimens in LIS and ensures data integrity.
• Performs specimen processing and required documentation per lab protocols.
• Assists in resolving problematic specimens and test orders with staff and clients.
• Follows safety and infection control procedures and supports accurate testing workflows.
• Operates LIS to support data entry and workflow management.
• Contributes to lab operations by restocking supplies and participating in committees.
