Job summary

MercyOne Genesis laboratory is seeking a Lab Assistant to support multiple departments by collecting, processing, analyzing, and reporting laboratory tests essential for patient diagnosis and treatment.

The role requires venipunctures, specimen handling, LIS data entry, and adherence to safety and quality standards; evening shift, 130p-10p, every other weekend, on call and some holidays.

Qualifications

• Laboratory experience and medical terminology knowledge preferred.
• Strong computer skills and ability to learn new systems quickly.
• Comfortable working in a collaborative, shared leadership environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform venipunctures, finger sticks, and heel sticks appropriate to patient age and ensure proper specimen collection.
• Accept specimens and requisitions and manage add‑on orders per procedures.
• Identify patients and specimens using two identifiers and label containers accurately.
• Register and log specimens in LIS and ensure data integrity.
• Process specimens and prepare slides per laboratory protocols.
• Assist in resolving problematic specimens and maintain safety and quality standards.
