Job summary

Charles River Laboratories, Inc. is seeking an Animal Care Associate for the GEMS Breed Group in Wilmington, MA. The role involves maintaining health, production and environment of animals, handling rodents, data entry, and adherence to SOPs and welfare standards.

The position is Monday–Friday with early shifts; it is temporary with potential to become a full-time CRL employee. Starting benefits include 401K participation, paid sick time, and volunteer time with full benefits upon conversion.

Qualifications

• Sufficient computer knowledge to use a tablet computer and communicate using Microsoft Applications.
• Ability to engage with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
• Clear and effective communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform entry-level husbandry tasks including feeding, bedding, water and enrichment.
• Maintain rat and mouse colonies including matings, weaning and genotyping sampling.
• Handle rodents including restraint for sample collection and tagging for identification.
• Observe animals for health issues and abnormalities.
• Learn and follow SOPs with supervision; adhere to animal welfare and biosecurity standards.
• Enter accurate data into ICM and other databases; follow ERP protocols.
• Comply with local, state, and federal laws governing animal research.

Education

AALAS certification at the ALAT or above
