Job description

The Department of Urology at the University of Virginia is seeking a Lab and Research Technician 2 or Lab Specialist (depending on qualifications) to join Dr. Allison May's lab. This role supports research on kidney cancer and tumor cell/immune cell interactions in kidney tumors, performing technical duties in a laboratory setting.

Responsibilities

1. Assist with experiments, basic analyses, and maintain lab equipment and animal care.
2. Support data analysis using statistical software and perform minor surgical procedures on small animals.
3. Train support staff, supervise students or volunteers, and develop new experimental techniques.
4. Coordinate study subjects and maintain accurate records.
5. Perform complex tests, troubleshoot issues, analyze data, and conduct literature reviews.
6. May involve small animal surgery and instruct on methods and safety.
7. Train staff and adapt procedures to research needs.

Minimum Qualifications

Lab and Research Technician 2: Associate's degree; at least 2 years of lab experience or a Bachelor's degree in a related science.

Lab Specialist: Bachelor's degree; 2 years of experience or 4 years of lab-related experience in lieu of degree.
