Join a dynamic team at a leading research lab focused on neuroscience and anesthesiology. This role offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge research, investigating the clearance of neurotoxic metabolites after hemorrhagic stroke. You will engage in both routine lab functions and advanced techniques, contributing to vital research that enhances patient care. The position promises a collaborative environment where your skills will thrive, and your contributions will directly impact the advancement of medical science. If you're passionate about making a difference in the field of research, this position is for you.
The Leclerc Laboratory at the University of Virginia, Department of Anesthesiology, seeks applications for a Lab and Research Technician 1 or 2. Applicants will be considered for a position based on their education and laboratory experience.
The Department of Anesthesiology provides an environment where expertise and passions thrive, utilizing a team of anesthesia physicians, trainees, nurses, and staff to advance patient care within UVA Health. With excellence in leadership, research, education, and innovation, we aim to improve perioperative outcomes, establish unparalleled practices in patient care, and advance anesthesiology globally. Clinical and Basic Science Research are integral to our mission.
The Leclerc Lab focuses on elucidating mechanisms for the clearance of neurotoxic metabolites from the brain following hemorrhagic stroke. Normally, blood is confined within the vasculature; however, hemorrhage releases neurotoxic molecules. The glymphatic pathway facilitates the clearance of these molecules. Our research investigates how anesthetic paradigms modulate this pathway to enhance clearance after hemorrhagic stroke.
The experiments involve cutting-edge in vivo and in vitro techniques, bridging Anesthesiology and Neuroscience. Responsibilities include routine lab functions such as managing mouse colonies, genotyping, solution preparation, supply ordering, inventory management, and record keeping, as well as advanced procedures like stereotaxic surgeries, two-photon microscopy, MRI, neurobehavioral monitoring, histology, and Western blotting. Additional duties may be assigned.
The position reports to the Principal Investigator, with weekly progress meetings and collaboration with lab members and departments.
