Job description

The Charge Nurse position is an experienced professional role requiring clinical, leadership, and interpersonal skill proficiency.

The Charge Nurse facilitates and supports the clinical and operational needs of inpatient care areas in partnership with management.

The STICU is a fast-paced unit serving critically ill adult patients, including post-operative patients from surgical specialties such as colorectal, organ transplant, plastic surgery, urology, orthopedics, hepatobiliary, and general surgery. As the primary ICU of a level one trauma center, it also cares for patients injured due to trauma from the surrounding area.

This is an opportunity to join our Charge Nurse team at a leading academic health system and Virginia's top children's hospital. Our STICU department seeks an experienced Care Coordinator to join our Magnet-recognized Medical Center.

Responsibilities include:
  1. Staffing/Throughput/Access: Leading daily operations supporting safe patient throughput and access, ensuring staffing aligns with patient needs, and documenting accurately for fiscal stewardship.
  2. Team Member Support: Serving as a resource, ensuring adherence to policies, supporting professional development, and fostering a productive environment.
  3. Patient Experience: Enhancing patient experience through team support, patient rounding, service recovery, and collaboration.
  4. Environment of Care: Ensuring safety standards, facilitating communication, and supporting quality goals.

Additional duties may be assigned.

Position Compensation Range: $46.08 - $61.00 Hourly

Minimum Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's of Science in Nursing or enrollment in an accredited BSN/MSN program to be completed within 5 years.
  • Experience: RN Clinician 2 or higher with 6 months on the unit or prior Charge Nurse experience.
  • Licensure: RN license in Virginia and BLS certification.
Physical Demands

Standing, traveling, bending, lifting (20-50 lbs), and exposure to chemicals and biological hazards.
