Job summary

The Matlen Silver Group, Inc. is seeking a Production Support Engineer in Jersey City to deliver L2/L3 support for front-office trading applications.

This role emphasizes production issue resolution and collaboration with traders and business users in a fast-paced financial services environment. Responsibilities include monitoring with Dynatrace and Splunk, troubleshooting across UNIX/Linux and Windows, writing UNIX scripts, and performing SQL/database troubleshooting with Oracle/Sybase.

Qualifications

• Must have L2/L3 technical production support.
• Front-office / trading support experience is required.
• Financial services / banking experience in a large enterprise environment.
• Strong UNIX/Linux skills.
• Strong Shell scripting experience.
• Strong SQL skills including complex queries, multiple joins, and table-level investigation.
• Experience with Oracle and/or Sybase databases.
• Application monitoring experience with Dynatrace and Splunk.
• Experience troubleshooting production incidents and performing root-cause analysis.
• Strong communication with traders and business stakeholders.
• Willingness to participate in weekend support rotation.

Production Support Engineer

Front Office / Trading Profile Types We Are Searching For

We are looking for L2/L3 Production Support Engineers who have supported front-office trading applications in a financial services environment.

Target Titles:

The ideal background is application/production support within a trading environment, not systems administration or infrastructure engineering.

Project / Environment This is an ongoing application and trading support role supporting production applications used by front-office/trading teams.

The engineer will be responsible for monitoring applications, troubleshooting production issues, investigating incidents, working with traders and external stakeholders, and resolving issues across the application and database layers.

What You’ll Do

• Provide L2/L3 production support for front-office trading applications.
• Work directly with traders and business users to troubleshoot and resolve production issues.
• Monitor applications and investigate alerts using Dynatrace and Splunk.
• Troubleshoot across UNIX/Linux and Windows environments.
• Write and execute UNIX/Shell scripts for troubleshooting, automation, and production support.
• Use SQL extensively, including complex queries, multiple joins, and troubleshooting across database tables.
• Support applications utilizing Oracle and Sybase databases.
• Analyze production incidents, identify root causes, and coordinate resolution with development and other technical teams.
• Communicate effectively with internal teams, traders, and external stakeholders during incidents.
• Participate in incident management and provide clear updates through resolution.
• Participate in an on-call/weekend support rotation, approximately one weekend every 3–4 weeks.
• Support occasional later shifts during the week when needed; the standard schedule is generally 9:00 AM–5:00/6:00 PM EST.

Must-Have Skills & Experience

• Experience in L2/L3 technical production support.
• Front-office / trading support experience is required.
• Financial services / banking experience in a large enterprise environment.
• Strong UNIX/Linux skills.
• Strong Shell scripting experience.
• Strong SQL skills, including:
  • Complex queries
  • Multiple joins
  • Table-level investigation
  • Production troubleshooting
• Experience with Oracle and/or Sybase databases.
• Application monitoring experience with Dynatrace and Splunk.
• Experience troubleshooting production incidents and performing root-cause analysis.
• Strong communication skills and ability to interact directly with traders and business stakeholders.
• Willingness to participate in the weekend support rotation.

Nice-to-Have Skills

• Python scripting/automation.
• Experience supporting FX / Foreign Exchange applications or products.
• Experience supporting Fixed Income or Equities.
