Akkodis is seeking an experienced L2 Data Center Technician to support overnight data center operations in a fast-paced environment. This role will provide hands-on support for server hardware, networking equipment, cabling, troubleshooting, and data center infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have 2–5 years of data center experience, strong hardware troubleshooting skills, and a solid understanding of basic Linux commands, cabling, and data center safety and security protocols.
Key Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot server hardware issues and isolate root causes to determine appropriate solutions.
- Diagnose and resolve issues involving servers, switches, cables, optics, and other data center equipment.
- Order and install replacement server parts and components as needed.
- Remove and return defective hardware components to vendors following established procedures.
- Update server firmware to the latest approved versions.
- Configure IP addresses and default login credentials on servers.
- Assist network administrators with server and network-related troubleshooting.
- Replace broken, damaged, or improperly connected cables.
- Re-route cables between server and switch ports as directed.
- Replace and install optics on server and switch ports.
- Upgrade and install server components, including hardware replacements and upgrades.
- Temporarily rack and stack servers or switches in cabinets for remote configuration.
- Perform server and switch cabling to support remote configuration and network deployment activities.
- Respond to network administrator requests for specific server, switch, hardware, or cabling support.
- Perform routine data center operations while following established safety, security, and site procedures.
- Accurately document completed work, troubleshooting steps, hardware changes, and ticket updates.
- Escalate complex or unresolved technical issues to the appropriate team.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 2–5 years of experience working in a data center environment.
- Hands-on experience troubleshooting and supporting server hardware.
- Experience working with various types of data center cables and connectors.
- Basic understanding of Linux commands and server environments.
- Experience with rack and stack activities and server/switch installations.
- Understanding of basic data center safety and security protocols.
- Ability to troubleshoot hardware issues and identify potential root causes.
- Ability to follow technical documentation, procedures, and build instructions.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.
- Ability to work effectively during an overnight/graveyard shift.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with server hardware, switches, optics, and network cabling.
- Experience replacing server components and performing hardware upgrades.
- Familiarity with server firmware updates and IP configuration.
- Experience supporting network administrators with server and switch-related requests.
- Experience in a large-scale or enterprise data center environment.
- Basic understanding of networking concepts such as ports, IP addresses, and connectivity.
