Job summary

Gruve is seeking a proactive L1 System Administrator to support day-to-day Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server database operations. You will monitor availability, run health checks, validate backups, log incidents, and escalate to L2/L3 teams as needed.

You will follow approved runbooks, use ITSM tools like ServiceNow, and participate in a global 24x7 support model with shift handovers. This role is based in the United States and offers ongoing learning in a dynamic startup environment.

Qualifications

• 1-3 years basic understanding of relational databases and Oracle and/or SQL Server.
• Familiarity with database availability, logs, tablespace or disk utilization and scheduled jobs.
• Basic SQL knowledge and ability to perform simple queries or health checks where authorized.
• Understanding of database backup status, job monitoring and incident escalation.
• Familiarity with monitoring tools and ServiceNow or equivalent ITSM platforms.
• Understanding of incident management, SLA compliance and escalation procedures.
• Good communication, documentation and shift handover skills.
• Ability to follow runbooks and operational checklists accurately.
• Willingness to work in rotational shifts in a 24x7 production support environment.

Responsibilities

• Oracle Database Operations: monitor availability, alerts and dashboards; perform routine checks on status, space usage and alert logs; monitor RMAN backup status; identify connectivity issues and failed jobs; collect logs and escalate to L2.
• Microsoft SQL Server Operations: monitor availability and health indicators; check SQL Agent job status and space utilization; identify failed jobs and backup issues; perform basic health checks; escalate to L2 with details.
• Operations & Service Management: log, categorize, prioritize incidents in ITSM tools; perform initial troubleshooting; escalate critical alerts within SLAs; support backup status reporting and handover documentation; coordinate with L2/L3 teams; follow ITIL processes; ensure 24x7 coverage.
