Job summary

The Union League of Philadelphia is seeking a Food Service Assistant to help maintain a clean, organized kitchen and dish area, support basic food preparation, and ensure proper cleaning and storage of tools and equipment. You will work closely with the culinary team, assist during busy service periods, and help with stocking, receiving deliveries, and maintaining high safety and sanitation standards.

Qualifications

• Prior kitchen or hospitality experience preferred but not required.
• Ability to stand for extended periods.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Able to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
• Willingness to work flexible shifts including weekends and holidays.
• Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices is a plus.
• Dependable and punctual with a strong work ethic.

Responsibilities

• Wash and sanitize all dishes, utensils, pots, pans, and equipment.
• Ensure cleanliness of the dish area, kitchen floors, walls, and trash areas.
• Assist culinary team with basic food prep and organization.
• Operate kitchen machinery and dishwashing equipment safely.
• Set up and break down dishwashing station daily.
• Monitor and report maintenance or safety issues in the kitchen area.
• Follow proper food safety and sanitation standards at all times.
• Support kitchen team during busy service periods with cleaning and stocking duties.
• Assist in receiving and properly storing food and supply deliveries.
