Job description

Kitchen Shift Lead or Cook (part time, full time, term time only)

Have you worked in the catering industry before? Do you have a passion and skill for cooking? Would you enjoy cooking for our guests and being an important part of their outdoor learning experience? Do you have good leadership skills?

Then look no further!

This role has a starting salary of £14,876.11 per annum based on a 20-hour working week (£26,777 per annum for full time equivalent).

  • 6 month contract
  • 8 hour shifts between the hours of 7am to 8pm with some weekend work required.
  • Location: Thames Young Mariners in Ham

We are seeking experienced caterers to lead our shifts in the kitchen at our busy outdoor education centres. The Kitchen Team Lead is a varied position, requiring good organisational skills, sound catering knowledge, and experience in a busy kitchen. You will lead the shift, prepare, cook, and serve to our guests who range from school children to adult groups.

Each day is different, so adaptability is key to meet the varying needs of our groups, providing tasty, quality food. From time to time, we deliver themed events which will bring your creative skills to life!

Serving and cooking outdoors are all part of these exciting events which add to the variety of this role. Other areas of responsibility include staff mentoring, ordering, menu planning, and stock control.

A full driving licence and access to a vehicle is required.

  • Leadership skills which are positive and motivating
  • A holder of, or working towards, Food Hygiene Level 3
  • Experience of cooking for large groups
  • Excellent planning and time management skills
  • Ability to work using own initiative
  • Experience of catering for a wide range of needs, special diets, or allergies
  • Positive and solution-focused
  • An Enhanced DBS check will be carried out during recruitment
  • You will be scheduled to work at your local centre where possible, with High Ashurst being the main base during winter. High Ashurst is in a remote location, so please consider your transport arrangements.
