Job summary

Middlebury College is seeking a Kitchen Porter Supervisor to oversee dishroom and pot sink operations, ensuring clean, sanitary, and stocked ware while complying with safety and sanitation standards. This is a full-time, benefits-eligible, hourly position with a hiring range of $20.00 - $22.99 per hour.

The role provides supervision and operational support across Dining Services to meet staffing, safety, customer service, and departmental priorities.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of sanitation requirements and dish room safety procedures.
• 1–2 years of dish room and supervisory experience preferred.
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Responsibilities

• Oversee dishroom and pot sink staff during assigned shifts, assigning and adjusting responsibilities to maintain efficient operations and adequate staffing.
• Perform and oversee dishwashing and pot sink functions, ensuring dishes, glassware, utensils, cookware, and equipment are cleaned, sanitized, properly stored, and distributed.
• Monitor cleanliness and organization of the dish room, pot sink, mop room, and related work areas, ensuring all sanitation and end-of-shift cleaning requirements are met.
• Train, coach, and support staff in equipment operation, safety procedures, sanitation standards, and departmental expectations.
• Ensure compliance with food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety standards; address concerns and take corrective action as needed.
• Operate and monitor dishwashing equipment, maintain appropriate chemical levels, and report maintenance or repair needs to management.
• Conduct regular inventories of dishware, utensils, and related supplies, communicating shortages and operational needs as appropriate.
• Provide supervision and operational support throughout Dining Services as needed to support staffing, workflow, customer service, and departmental priorities.

Requirements

• High schooldiploma or equivalent experience preferred.
• Knowledge ofsanitation requirements and dish room safety procedures.
• 1-2 years ofdish room and supervisory experience preferred.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

• Must be ableto lift up to 60 lbs. on a daily basis, including lifting full milkcrates into the cooler above waist level.
• Must be ableto liftfull glass racks and coffee racks above waist level.
• Must be able to push and pull 150 lbs. frequently.
• This job alsorequires frequent and repetitive overhead reaching and lifting, as well as standing for long periods of time.
• Also requiresfrequent and repetitive bending and twisting motions.
