Job summary

The Salvation Army in California is seeking a Food Service Manager to plan, prepare, and oversee daily meal service and catering events. You will ensure compliance with sanitation, health, and food safety standards while managing inventory and large-scale meal production.

This role trains and schedules kitchen staff, coordinates with volunteers and the Events Coordinator for catering, handles ordering and invoicing, and maintains equipment.

Qualifications

• Must hold California food handler certification (Safety Code 97-0071).
• Preferred Culinary Arts degree and/or 2 years of food handling experience.
• Valid California Driver's License with clean driving record.

Responsibilities

• Train, schedule, and motivate kitchen staff.
• Give orientation to volunteers and staff on kitchen safety.
• Perform pre-safety checks and report equipment issues immediately.
• Plan and direct food preparation for daily meals and catering.
• Manage food and labor costs, track inventory, and adhere to budget.
• Place orders, process invoices, and maintain inventory of supplies.
• Collaborate with Events Coordinator for catering requests.
• Ensure compliance with sanitation standards and proper food handling.
• Store food safely with dating and proper labeling.
• Record equipment repairs and communicate needs to supervisor.
