Job summary

The Salvation Army Indiana Division is seeking a Kitchen Assistant to maintain a clean, safe kitchen and dining area, supporting the Cook on duty and ensuring the organization’s mission is carried out with quality food service. You will follow hygiene protocols and assist with meal preparation and service.

Responsibilities include dishwashing, cleaning, setup, and assisting in food donation activities, with opportunities to cross-train and participate in team meetings.

Qualifications

• Must be able to communicate effectively in English with leadership and staff.
• Knowledge of safe food handling practices in an industrial kitchen.
• Ability to operate kitchen equipment and supplies (dishwasher, sinks, mop, buckets, cleaning supplies).

Responsibilities

• Maintain a clean and safe kitchen and dining area.
• Follow sanitation protocols and wear required PPE (apron, hair net, gloves, uniform).
• Assist cook on duty and cross-train for additional tasks.
• Participate in food donation and pantry programs as directed.
• Attend staff in-service and meetings.
