Job summary

State of Maryland - MSDE in Prince George’s County is seeking School-Based Literacy Coaches to improve K-3 reading through non-evaluative, job-embedded coaching grounded in the Science of Reading and HQIM.

Coaches will support teachers with HQIM, administer early literacy screeners, and lead professional learning aligned to state literacy priorities, MTSS framework, and Ready to Read Act, traveling across schools as needed.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree or 36 credit hours post-baccalaureate required.
• Four years of administrative or teaching experience in literacy in P-12 settings.
• Substitutions: two extra years of related experience may replace education.
• Doctorate may substitute one year of experience for the required experience.
• Education/experience requirements are defined by MSDE and documented in HR records.

Responsibilities

• Lead teachers through individual literacy coaching cycles and provide non-evaluative coaching.
• Support instruction aligned to the Science of Reading and MSDE policy with HQIM.
• Coach on systematic foundational skills (phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary).
• Model structured literacy through co-teaching and lesson modeling; give targeted feedback.
• Deliver professional learning on evidence-based literacy practices and MTSS.
• Help implement HQIM, screeners, diagnostics, and data-driven interventions.
