Job summary

San Joaquin County Probation Department – Juvenile Services Division seeks a Juvenile Detention Unit Supervisor to oversee a living unit, supervise staff, and engage with youth to promote safety, accountability, and positive behavior.

You will develop programs, monitor progress, prepare reports, and ensure compliance with policies while coordinating with education and treatment services to support youth outcomes.

Qualifications

• Experience supervising staff in a juvenile setting or similar environment.
• Education in social or behavioral sciences preferred by Pattern II.
• Must possess a valid California driver's license and pass background checks.

Responsibilities

• Assigns, trains, supervises, and evaluates staff performance.
• Develops positive relationships with youthful offenders to gain compliance.
• Assesss programs and progress; prepares reports.
• Maintains safety, security, and discipline for staff and youth.
• Provides direct supervision of minors and may restrain when needed for safety.
• Transports youthful offenders as required and uses detention management systems.
