Job summary

San Joaquin County Probation is seeking an entry-level Juvenile Detention Officer Assistant (JDOA) trainee. You will work closely with experienced staff, perform routine tasks, and receive hands-on training to build your skills in a 24-hour detention facility.

The role requires rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime. Candidates must pass exams and background checks, with orientation and mandatory training provided. Salary ranges from $5,207 to $6,329 monthly.

Qualifications

• Completion of 30 semester units with at least 6 in social/behavioral sciences.
• One year of full-time experience in law enforcement, correctional work, or supervision of residents in a youth/adult program.
• Possession of a valid California driver's license.
• Must complete Juvenile Corrections Officer Core Course within first year.

Responsibilities

• Maintains security and discipline within the unit, enforcing facility rules.
• Supervises youthful offender behavior and guides in proper conduct.
• Develops relationships to gain compliance and build trust.
• Documents information and relates it to appropriate persons.
• Participates in recreation/work programs and behavior modification activities.
• Prepares conduct records and reports for placement or court proceedings.
• May perform basic housekeeping, room checks, and mail searches.
• Learns restraint techniques for safety and protection.
• Uses detention management software and communicates effectively.
• Transports youthful offenders when necessary.
