Job summary

Colliers Engineering & Design in Charlotte, NC seeks an Entry-Level Waterway Structures Engineer to join our Water team. You will assist with designs for structures on or near water, including locks, dams, and gates, under the guidance of senior engineers.

Ideal candidates have a civil engineering degree, a basic familiarity with AutoCAD or MicroStation, and a drive to become a licensed PE. The role offers growth, collaboration across disciplines, and exposure to large infrastructure projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's in civil engineering required.
• EIT certification is a plus.
• Interest in structural projects near water preferred.
• Internship or class experience with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation preferred.
• Desire to obtain PE license in the future.
• Ability to read, write, and understand English.

Responsibilities

• Perform engineering calculations and create construction cost estimates.
• Work with senior engineers to create project designs for structures on or near the water (locks, dams, hydropower plants, water control gates, moorings).
• Perform QA/QC by verifying design methodology, calculations, outcomes, etc.
• Interpret and understand drawings from multiple disciplines for specific projects and respond to requests for information.
• Conduct field inspections and surveys in support of design and construction efforts.
• Research and apply code provisions to design.
• Research design alternatives and document findings for project engineer/manager.
• Evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering techniques and procedures, using own judgment.
• Assist senior staff in the creation of proposals, client information, and designs.
• Develop drawings while applying changes and corrections as needed.
