Job summary

Durham Academy is accepting applications for a part-time Junior Varsity Assistant Boys Basketball Coach. The season runs from late October through early February. The successful candidate will assist with tryouts, help plan practices, and support game strategy while driving a minibus to road games.

Reports to the JV Head Coach and Director of Athletics. A commitment to safety and teamwork is required. Experience at interscholastic or collegiate level coaching or playing basketball is preferred.

Durham Academy is accepting applications for a part-time Junior Varsity Assistant boys basketball coach. The season runs from late October through early February.

Job Responsibilities:

Assist with tryouts and team selection in consultation with the JV Head Coach and the Varsity coaching staff

Help plan and execute effective practices

Assist Head Coach with game strategy

Drive a minibus to all road games

Collaborate with all coaches in the boys basketball program and DA Athletics trainers, staff, administration and faculty

Candidates should expect a regular weekday commitment of 90 minute practices with two-three games per week. This position reports to both the Varsity Boys Basketball Head Coach and the Director of Athletics.

The ideal candidate will have the following characteristics:

Experience playing or coaching basketball at the interscholastic or collegiate level.

A commitment to providing a safe, healthy, joyful environment for practice and play

Strong communication and interpersonal skills

An ability and eagerness to maintain positive, collaborative working relationships with all members of the school community (student-athletes, families, alumni, teachers, administrators and fellow coaches)

The ability to lead student-athletes with competitive energy and formative care
