Job summary

Fehr & Peers is seeking an entry-level Transportation Engineer or Planner to build a strong foundation by applying standard techniques under guidance while developing skills and confidence to grow throughout your career. You’ll work on transportation planning, design, and operations projects, with exposure to a wide range of tasks and multidisciplinary collaboration.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or in-progress master’s degree in transportation, civil or electrical engineering, urban and regional planning, or related field.
• EIT is preferred for engineering candidates.
• Experience or exposure in field work, traffic operations analysis, signal design, transportation planning, bicycle and pedestrian planning, transit planning, infrastructure finance, transportation and land use policy, travel demand modeling, and related areas.
• Experience or exposure to Excel, GIS (ArcGIS, QGIS), CAD (AutoCAD, MicroStation), traffic operations analysis tools (HCS, Synchro/SimTraffic, Vistro, VISSIM, Sidra); travel demand modeling tools (Cube/Voyager, TransCAD, VISUM, Emme); and Python or R.
• Previous experience in a professional or team environment related to transportation or another relevant field is helpful but may come from a variety of settings and experiences.
• Entrepreneurial spirit and proactive communication.
• Genuine curiosity about transportation and familiarity with challenges of day-to-day travel.
• Interpersonal skills, collaboration, and creative problem-solving.
• Organizational skills and ability to balance priorities between multiple tasks within a timeline.
• Experience with technical writing and public speaking.
• Openness to exploring and responsibly using new technologies and tools.

Responsibilities

• Conduct transportation analysis and prepare reports, memos, and other technical deliverables.
• Participate in meetings, including preparing presentations and public outreach materials.
• Support project coordination and management activities.
• Engage with professional organizations and industry activities.
• Conduct site visits and collect field data.
• Explore opportunities to contribute to Fehr & Peers internal Research and Development program.
• Embrace opportunities to learn and adopt new tools, technologies, and ways of working that improve day-to-day work while maintaining professional judgment.
