Job summary

WSP USA is seeking an Early Career Civil Engineer (Substations) to support design, development and construction of electrical substation projects. Positions are available in Freeport, ME with consideration for Ann Arbor, MI, Syracuse, NY, New York, NY, and other locations.

Under supervision, you will assist with data collection, site surveys, basic research, and documentation to meet safety and industry standards.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, or closely related discipline.
0 to 1 years of relevant post education experience.
Excellent research skills with analytical mindset.
Familiarity with process and concepts for design/build.
Familiarity with civil construction laws, codes, regulations, and record-keeping requirements.
Interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with engineers and non-engineers.
Proficient self-leadership with attention to detail and multitasking.
Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Basic proficiency with technical writing, office software, spreadsheets, technology and tools.
Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to company policies.
Ability to travel occasionally.

Responsibilities

Under supervision, collect, compile, and analyze site data, surveys, blueprints, GIS data, and geotechnical information for project development and design.
Assist with basic professional civil engineering work including site condition investigations to ensure compliance with rules and permits.
Perform routine engineering functions and provide entry-level technical assistance on design requirements and safe operation of end-users and infrastructure.
Verify site characteristics and provide basic technical advice on engineering and construction issues.
Generate concise documentation using drawings, electronic systems, and field logs.
Adhere to safety guidelines and site procedures, including data and engineering studies.
Complete training on assigned tasks.
Exercise ethical decision-making regarding company funds and resources, following WSP’s policies.
Assume additional responsibilities as needed.
