Job summary

WSP is seeking an Early Career Civil Engineer (Substations) for our Freeport, Maine office with consideration for Syracuse, NY, and other locations. You will support design, development, and construction of electrical substation projects in public and private sectors, collecting data, performing site research, and preparing documentation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or closely related discipline.
• 0 to 1 years of relevant post-education experience.
• Excellent research skills with analytical mindset.
• Familiarity with design/build concepts.
• Familiarity with civil construction laws, codes, regulations, and record-keeping.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills for engineering and non-engineering audiences.
• Attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization in a dynamic environment.
• Ability to work independently under supervision and as part of a team.
• Proficiency with technical writing, office software, and tools.
• Willingness to travel occasionally.
• Authorized to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

• Assist with collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from sites, surveys, GIS data, maps, and other sources for project development, design, and construction.
• Perform basic professional civil engineering tasks, including research and inspections of site conditions to ensure compliance with rules and permits.
• Provide entry-level technical support on design requirements and operating strategies to ensure safety and functionality.
• Verify site characteristics and provide technical assistance on engineering, design, and construction issues.
• Generate complete, accurate documentation using electronic systems, drawings, and field notebooks/logs.
• Follow safety guidelines and site-specific procedures including data, studies and surveys, and construction.
• Complete training on assigned tasks.
• Adhere to company Code of Conduct and policies.
