Burns & McDonnell is seeking an Assistant Structural Engineer to support project teams across a range of facilities, from power to healthcare. You will assist in designing, drafting, and coordinating structural components under supervision, ensuring alignment with budget and client needs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering or related field; ABET accreditation strongly preferred.
• Prior internship or related consulting experience preferred.
• Basic knowledge of standard structural engineering techniques, principles and procedures.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem solving environment; demonstrated critical thinking.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Basic knowledge of structural analysis programs (RISA), AutoCAD and BIM (Revit, Tekla).
• Strong attention to detail, facilitation, teamwork, collaboration, organisation and problem solving skills.
• Engineer in Training (EIT) certification preferred.
• Minimum GPA of 3.0 strongly preferred.
• Campus or community involvement preferred.
• Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently in the country where this position is located.

Responsibilities

• Assists in the structural design of projects from the conceptual phase through design completion.
• Assists with modifying and reviewing production drawings for a variety of projects.
• Assists in designing structural components per project manager requirements.
• Applies basic knowledge of commonly used structural engineering concepts, principles, practices, codes, and procedures.
• Assists with research and compiles project data as required by the project managers.
• Assists with correcting and updating drawings in CAD-related software.
• Assists with client presentations, shop drawing review, and contract administration.
• Assists in performing field inspections, measurements or calculations for clients.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
