Job summary

Burns & McDonnell is seeking an Assistant Structural Engineer to support project teams in designing and detailing for power, process, healthcare, and industrial facilities. You’ll assist with calculations, drawings, and client communications under supervision of a licensed engineer.

The role involves collaboration across design phases, field verifications, and a strong emphasis on accuracy and problem solving in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering or related field (ABET preferred).
• Master’s degree in Structural/Civil Eng. with Structural Emphasis (ABET preferred).
• Internship/consulting experience preferred.
• Basic knowledge of structural engineering techniques and procedures.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work methodically and analytically in problem solving.

Responsibilities

• Assist in structural design from conceptual phase through design completion.
• Modify and review production drawings for various facilities (power, process, healthcare, airports, etc.).
• Assist in designing structural components per project manager requirements.
• Apply basic structural engineering concepts and procedures.
• Research and compile project data for managers.
• Update drawings with senior engineer corrections across CAD software.
• Assist in client presentations, shop drawing reviews, and contract administration.
• Perform field inspections and calculations for clients.
