Job summary

Burns & McDonnell is seeking an Assistant Structural Engineer to support project teams across a range of facilities including power, process, healthcare, and government. You will contribute to conceptual and design work, update drawings, and assist in field measurements under licensed engineers.

The role emphasizes teamwork, accuracy, and growth, with exposure to AutoCAD, Revit, BIM, and other engineering tools, and opportunities toward professional licensure.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Structural Engineering or related field from an accredited program.
• Master's degree in Structural Engineering preferred; ABET accreditation preferred.
• Prior internship or related consulting experience preferred.
• Basic knowledge of standard structural engineering techniques and procedures.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem‑solving environment; strong critical thinking.

Responsibilities

• Assists in the structural design of projects from conceptual phase to design completion.
• Assists with modifying and reviewing production drawings for various facilities (power, process, healthcare, etc.).
• Assists in designing structural components to meet project needs set by managers.
• Applies basic knowledge of commonly used structural engineering concepts, principles and codes.
• Assists with researching and compiling project data as required by managers.
• Assists with correcting and updating drawings provided by senior engineers across CAD software.
• Assists with client presentations, shop drawing review, and contract administration.
• Assists in performing field inspections, measurements or calculations for clients.
• Performs other duties as assigned and adheres to policies.
• Complies with all company policies and standards.
