Job summary

Burns & McDonnell in Chicago, IL is seeking an Assistant Structural Engineer to support project teams from concept through design for power, process, healthcare, and industrial facilities. Under the supervision of a licensed PE, you will prepare and review drawings, assist field measurements, and help presentations while ensuring designs meet budget and client needs.

Internship or EIT preferred for growth in a collaborative sense.

Qualifications

• ABET accreditation preferred for program,
• Internship or related consulting experience preferred.
• Basic knowledge of structural engineering concepts and procedures.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work methodically and analytically in problem solving.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office; CAD/BIM experience required.

Responsibilities

• Assist in structural design from concept through design completion.
• Modify and review production drawings for diverse facilities.
• Design structural components per project needs set by managers.
• Apply basic knowledge of standards and codes in designs.
• Assist with data collection and project documentation.
• Update drawings across CAD software and participate in client presentations.
• Support field inspections, measurements, and calculations.
• Perform other duties and comply with policies.
