Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a Mechanical/Systems Engineer for its Nuclear Power Group in the Chicago area. The candidate will apply thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics and turbomachinery knowledge to support engineering design, calculations and reports for client projects.

Essential qualifications include a BS or MS in a relevant engineering field, strong numerical skills and excellent communication.

Qualifications

• Requires a BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, General Engineering, or Systems Engineering with strong academic background in thermodynamics, energy systems and turbomachinery.
• Proficient in applying engineering principles to design and analyze power plant mechanical systems.
• Experience with producing technical plans, fabrication drawings and models.

Responsibilities

• Apply thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics and power engineering knowledge directly to client projects.
• Prepare calculations, specifications, and technical reports; size equipment and optimize designs.
• Support project teams with system engineering and field verification at plant sites as needed.
• Travel to client/vendor sites for design reviews and field coordination may occur.
