Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a Mechanical Engineer in Chicago to apply thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, and power plant engineering knowledge across project work.

You will prepare calculations, specifications, and technical reports to support client recommendations, conduct equipment sizing, optimization evaluations, and participate in system engineering activities for power plant mechanical systems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering with strong thermodynamics, heat transfer and fluid mechanics background.
• Proven ability to apply mechanical engineering principles to project design and calculations.
• Experience with preparing calculations and technical reports; strong technical report-writing skills.
• Interest and ability in numerical computations and problem solving.
• Proficiency with MS Office applications and strong written/verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Directly apply knowledge of thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, and power plant engineering.
• Prepare calculations, specifications, and technical reports to support client recommendations and reviews; perform equipment sizing and optimization.
• Support project teams in system engineering, including design, modification, and analysis of power plant mechanical systems.
• Travel to client and vendor offices for design reviews and to plant sites for construction coordination and field verification.
