Job summary

X-energy LLC is hiring a Junior Mechanical Engineer in Gaithersburg, MD to design and develop mechanical systems, structures, and components for nuclear products. You will evaluate concepts, perform calculations, and support prototyping through commissioning to ensure safety and compliance.

The role covers structural design, thermal hydraulics, thermosystems, and mechanical design with CAD/PLM, FEA, and CFD tools.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field.
• Zero years of experience required.
• Proficiency with engineering hand calculations.
• Experience with CAD/PLM software (UG/NX, SolidWorks, Teamcenter, Windchill).
• Experience with structural analysis and FEA tools (ANSYS, ABAQUS, NASTRAN).
• CFD tools such as STAR-CCM+/Fluent.
• Knowledge of thermodynamics and 1D flow-solvers (RELAP, NPSS, SINDA/FLUINT).
• Experience with heat transfer, fluid mechanics and design analysis.

Responsibilities

• Develop mechanical concepts and SSCs for nuclear products or facilities.
• Coordinate with stakeholders to gather requirements and design criteria.
• Perform structural, thermal, and hydraulic calculations to meet specs.
• Utilize FEA/CFD tools to assess stress and performance.
• Create CAD models and documentation per procedures.
• Participate in design verification and V&V plans.
