Job summary

X Energy, LLC in Rockville, MD seeks a Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the design of mechanical systems for next‑generation nuclear reactors, with a focus on safety‑critical SSCs and verification through calculations and analyses.

You will mentor junior engineers, coordinate with stakeholders, and ensure high-quality deliverables within a fast‑paced production environment. Four‑day in‑office schedule, 8:00am–5:00pm.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline required; Master’s or Ph.D. may substitute for experience (2–3 years per level).
• 15–20 years of engineering experience in production or design environment with hands-on development and testing oversight.
• Proficiency in engineering hand calculations and CAD/PLM software (UG/NX, SolidWorks, Pro‑Engineer, Teamcenter, or Windchill).

Mechanical Design Engineer (Steam Generator)

We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the engineering design and development of mechanical systems, structures, and components for X‑Energy’s next‑generation nuclear reactors.

Responsibilities

• Develop mechanical/physical concepts and design processes to create or identify structures, systems, and components (SSCs) for nuclear products or facilities with a focus on nuclear safety.
• Identify, collect, and document applicable requirements, interfaces, design basis and criteria by coordinating with key stakeholders, systems engineers, and project leads.
• Plan and perform analysis required to assess SSCs and ensure they meet functional and technical specifications.
• Perform hand calculations and use analytical tools for structural, thermal, hydraulic, and other scoping calculations as directed to verify SSC performance.
• Provide independent reviews and acceptance reviews of engineering deliverables and data; maintain professional communication at all times.
• Teach and mentor junior team members and stay abreast of industry best practices.

Specialization Areas

Mechanical Design
Develop innovative mechanical solutions, refine and deploy concepts associated with X‑Energy reactors, including pressure vessels, piping, reactor internals, nuclear fuel, and high‑temperature materials. Create and maintain CAD‑generated models, support manufacturability assessment, write design documents, develop V&V plans, and perform quality procedures.

Mechanical Process Equipment
Design piping, ducting, HVAC, fire suppression, pumps, and valves.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline required; Master’s or Ph.D. may substitute for experience (2–3 years per level).
• 15–20 years of engineering experience in a production or design environment, including hands‑on development, hardware ownership, and testing oversight.
• Proficiency in engineering hand calculations and CAD/PLM software such as UG/NX, SolidWorks, Pro‑Engineer, Teamcenter, or Windchill.

Compensation

Based on Maryland and applicable state law: LevelV: $130,950 – $218,250; LevelVI: $140,550 – $234,250.
