Job summary

American Electric Power is seeking skilled personnel to join our Regional Service Organization. You will inspect, install, repair and maintain plant equipment, including scaffolding, piping, bearings, and wear plates, with travel up to 30%.

You’ll learn to operate machine shop tools and perform basic welding and electrical work on site. Responsibilities include laying out work, reading simple prints, and ensuring safety rules are followed while maintaining equipment and assisting in project

Qualifications

• Associate degree in engineering, industrial or energy technology or equivalent.
• Or associate in another discipline with two years related experience.
• Or high school diploma with four years related experience.
• Or high school diploma with two years of related military experience.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, erect or remove scaffolding and assist with complex scaffolding setups.
• Perform drilling, tapping, cutting, threading and simple machining tasks.
• Lay out components using rulers, scales, and levels for plant equipment mounting.
• Perform non-code welding on wear plates and similar assemblies.
• Carry out electrical work, wiring and terminations up to 260V and test circuits.
• Repair and maintain boiler tubes, valves, gauges, pumps and related equipment.
• Paint surfaces, perform rough carpentry, and repair hardware as needed.
• Operate mobile equipment and maintain a clean workspace.
• Adhere to safety rules and obtain necessary certifications/licences as required.
