Job summary

American Electric Power (AEP) seeks skilled workers to perform inspection, repair, maintenance, installation and construction of plant equipment and structures. You will learn and apply welding, rigging, scaffolding, electrical work, and basic machine shop tasks, read prints, lay out components, and ensure safety compliance while maintaining a clean, organized work area.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in engineering, industrial or energy technology required.
• High school diploma with four years of related work experience considered.
• Two years of related military experience considered.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, erect and take down basic scaffolding and assist with extensive scaffolding as needed.
• Perform drilling, tapping, threading, cutting and milling of boiler components and belts with machine shop tools.
• Lay out layouts on plane surfaces using measuring tools for components and conduits.
• Perform non-code welding, brazing, and cutting in non-critical areas.
• Read and interpret simple prints and specifications and assist in repairs and maintenance.
• Operate mobile equipment and keep work areas clean and safe.
• Ensure equipment is cleared and tagged before service; report irregularities.
