Job summary

Akamai is seeking a Junior Linux Engineer to join our Cloud services team. You will monitor system health, identify incidents, and work with senior engineers to improve reliability.

Ideal candidates have 2+ years of Linux experience, Docker/K8S expertise, and a foundational understanding of Ansible, along with basic command-line/SSH skills. Hybrid work options and competitive US compensation are offered.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of relevant experience and a Bachelor's degree.
• Foundational knowledge of Linux administration (filesystem, permissions, processes, networking).
• Hands-on experience with Docker/K8S (containers/pods, logs, troubleshooting).
• Basic understanding of Ansible language concepts (registers, memory layouts, low-level operations).
• Familiarity with command-line tools, SSH, and common system utilities.
• Ability to follow procedures and escalate issues accurately.
• On-call availability in rotation.

Responsibilities

• Performing monitoring shifts to ensure system availability and performance.
• Identifying incidents, perform initial troubleshooting, and upscale according to procedures.
• Document incidents, steps taken, and outcomes clearly.
• Assisting in maintaining and improving monitoring tools like Grafana and DataDog and dashboards.
• Following predefined runbooks and procedures to ensure consistent handling of events.
