Job summary

Akamai is seeking a Junior Linux Engineer to join our Cloud services team. This role is ideal for someone with foundational knowledge in Linux, Docker, and Ansible-level concepts, looking to grow in system administration and production operations.

You will monitor system health, identify incidents, escalate issues, and perform routine operational tasks, working with senior engineers to improve reliability. On-call availability is required.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of relevant experience and a Bachelor's degree.
• Foundational knowledge of Linux administration (filesystems, permissions, processes, networking).
• Hands-on experience with Docker/K8s (containers, pods, logs, troubleshooting).
• Basic understanding of Ansible language concepts (registers, memory layouts, low-level operations).
• Familiarity with command-line tools, SSH, and common system utilities.
• Ability to follow procedures and escalate issues accurately.
• Available for on-call out of hours in an existing on-call rotation.

Responsibilities

• Monitor system health and performance, shift-based.
• Identify incidents, perform initial troubleshooting and escalate per procedures.
• Document incidents, steps taken and outcomes clearly.
• Assist in maintaining and improving monitoring tools (Grafana, GroundCover/DataDog) and dashboards.
• Follow runbooks to ensure consistent event handling.
