Job summary

OopsGames in the United States is hiring a Junior Game Designer to support the design of core loops, levels, and feature prototypes. You will work closely with producers, artists, and engineers to turn ideas into playable builds and help refine them through playtests.

This role offers a flexible remote/hybrid setup, direct impact on shipped features, and plenty of room to learn tools and grow in a small, collaborative studio.

Qualifications

  • Interest in games and player experience (portfolio preferred).
  • Basic familiarity with Unity or Unreal Engine.
  • Clear written communication and ability to explain design choices.
  • Comfort working in a fast, collaborative environment.
  • Willingness to learn from feedback and ship iteratively.

Role Overview

We are hiring a Junior Game Designer to support the design of core loops, levels, and feature prototypes. You will work closely with producers, artists, and engineers to turn ideas into playable builds and help refine them through playtests.

Responsibilities
  • Design and document gameplay systems, level layouts, and progression flows
  • Build and iterate prototypes in collaboration with the development team
  • Analyze playtest feedback and suggest concrete improvements
  • Maintain clear design docs and share updates in sprint reviews
  • Support balancing, economy tuning, and onboarding flows for live or upcoming titles
Requirements
  • Strong interest in games and player experience (portfolio or personal projects preferred)
  • Basic familiarity with at least one engine (Unity or Unreal is a plus)
  • Clear written communication and the ability to explain design choices
  • Comfort working in a fast, collaborative environment
  • Willingness to learn from feedback and ship iteratively
Nice to Have
  • Experience with mobile or free-to-play design
  • Simple scripting or tool use (e.g. C#, Blueprints, spreadsheet balancing)
  • Previous shipped project, jam game, or mod
