Job summary

Seagate Technology is seeking an entry-level Facilities Mechanical Engineer I in Bloomington, MN (Normandale) to support operation, maintenance, and improvement of facility systems. You will work under senior engineers on HVAC, water systems, and capital projects while developing technical and project-management skills.

The role emphasizes training, hands-on engineering, and collaboration with operations, safety, and design teams.

Qualifications

• Basic understanding of mechanical engineering principles and thermodynamics.
• Familiarity with HVAC, fluid systems, heat transfer, and mechanical equipment fundamentals.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documents.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating within a team environment.

Responsibilities

• Design, analysis, and improvement of facility mechanical systems (AHUs, chilled water, cooling towers, heating, exhaust, cleanrooms).
• Evaluate and optimize facility water systems (domestic, process, cooling, water treatment, pumps and distribution).
• Prepare engineering calculations, equipment specifications, technical reports, and construction documents.
• Support engineering reviews to ensure compliance with codes, standards, and company requirements.
• Support facility upgrade and capital improvement projects from planning through commissioning.
• Develop project scopes, schedules, budgets, and cost estimates.
• Coordinate with contractors, consultants, suppliers, and internal stakeholders under supervision.
• Review engineering drawings, equipment submittals, and technical documentation.
• Support construction activities, startup, commissioning, and system troubleshooting.
• Provide engineering support to facility operations and maintenance teams.
• Participate in troubleshooting, root cause investigations, and corrective actions.
• Monitor system performance and identify reliability/efficiency improvements.
• Support preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
