Job summary

Southland Holdings is seeking a Heavy Civil Junior Construction Estimator to join our fast-growing team. You will coordinate bid estimates, review drawings, and prepare takeoffs under senior supervision to ensure competitive, accurate proposals.

Ideal candidates have 1+ year of estimating experience, a engineering-related degree or equivalent, and solid MS Office skills. Relocation assistance and a comprehensive benefits package are offered.

Qualifications

• 1+ years estimating experience preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field or equivalent combination of education/experience.
• Attention to detail and ability to visualize finished product from drawings.
• Familiarity with construction work and terminology.
• Good mathematical comprehension and communication skills.
• Self-motivated team player willing to adopt ideas and methods.
• Proficient with MS Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint; familiarity with estimating software.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate total estimating effort for bids/projects as assigned.
• Review specs and drawings, attend pre-bid meetings to determine scope.
• Incorporate historical data into unit and man-hour figures for risk assessment.
• Prepare discipline estimates via complete takeoffs of scope of work.
• Consult with clients, vendors, and others to discuss estimates and issues.
• Review options and recommend costs based on materials and availability.
• Ensure project knowledge meets affirmative action and DBE requirements.
• Prepare bids, select vendors, and determine cost effectiveness.
