Southland Holdings is seeking a Junior Estimator to join our fast-growing team in Grapevine, TX. We are a multi-faceted industry leader among the world’s largest heavy civil construction firms.

The Heavy Civil Junior Construction Estimator will coordinate bid estimates, review drawings, perform takeoffs, and prepare disciplined estimates with cost factors. A Bachelor’s degree and 1+ year estimating experience are preferred, along with strong MS Office skills and a team-oriented mindset.

Qualifications

• 1+ years of estimating experience preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field or equivalent combo.
• Attention to detail and accuracy in estimates.
• Ability to visualize the finished product from drawings.
• Familiarity with construction terminology and processes.
• Good math and numerical reasoning.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Team-oriented with initiative to learn new methods.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate estimating effort for bids/projects as assigned.
• Review specifications and drawings to determine scope and contents of estimate.
• Incorporate historical data into unit and man-hour figures.
• Prepare discipline estimates with takeoffs of scope of work.
• Consult with clients, vendors, or others to discuss estimates.
• Review design options and recommend cost-effective solutions.
• Ensure compliance with project regulations and DBE requirements.
• Prepare bids and select vendors/subcontractors for cost effectiveness.

Heavy Civil Junior Construction Estimator -

Southland Holdings is seeking an Jr.Estimator to join our fast growing team here at Southland! We are a multi-faceted industry leader and through our family of companies making upone of the world’s largest heavy civil construction firms.

Duties:

• Coordinate total estimating effort relevant to a particular bid/project as assigned
• Review proposal specifications, drawings, attend pre-bid meetings, etc. to determine scope of work and required contents of estimate
• Perform Risk and Contract Management responsibilities as required, review/incorporate historical data from purchase orders, subcontracts, productivity analysis reports, etc. into unit and man-hour figures
• Prepare discipline estimates by calculating complete takeoff of scope of work
• Consult with clients, vendors, or other individuals to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues
• May review design options and recommend best solution based on cost, engineering quality, or availability of materials
• Obtain knowledge of project and appropriate regulations required to construct the project to meet affirmative action requirements and DBE requirements, review list of work to be performed by subcontractors
• Review final estimate and apply strategic cost factors if necessary
• Prepare bids, select vendors and/or subcontractors and determine cost effectiveness of projects to be bid. Set productive, consistent, and acceptable work example.

Qualifications:

• 1+ years of estimating experience is preferred
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field or equivalent combination of education/experience if no degree
• Attention to detail
• Have the ability to visualize the finished product from the drawings and other documents provided.
• Familiarity with construction work and terminology.
• Good basic mathematical comprehension.
• Good oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
• Be a self-motivated enthusiastic team player willing to work with others and adopt new ideas and methods.
• Good computer skills including an operating knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
• Familiarity with Sage estimating, project scheduling software (MS Project or Primavera) and databases will be an advantage.
