Job summary

Southland Holdings is seeking an Estimator to join our fast-growing team in Grapevine, Texas. You will coordinate the estimating effort for bids and projects, review drawings and proposals, and prepare comprehensive cost estimates with a focus on accuracy and compliance.

You will leverage historical data, perform risk analysis, and work with clients and subcontractors to finalize estimates. The role emphasizes collaboration, attention to detail, and timely bid submission.

Qualifications

• 1+ years of estimating experience is preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field or equivalent combination of education/experience if no degree.
• Attention to detail.
• Ability to visualize the finished product from drawings and documents.
• Familiarity with construction terminology.
• Good basic mathematical comprehension.
• Strong oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
• Self-motivated enthusiastic team player.
• Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
• Familiarity with scheduling software (MS Project or Primavera) and databases is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate total estimating effort for bids/projects assigned.

• Incorporate historical data into unit and man-hour figures; perform risk and contract management as needed.
• Prepare discipline estimates by complete takeoffs of scope of work.
• Consult with clients and vendors to discuss estimates and resolve issues.
• Review design options and recommend cost-effective solutions.
• Ensure compliance with affirmative action and DBE requirements; review subcontractor scope.
• Prepare bids, select vendors/subcontractors, and determine cost effectiveness.

Heavy Civil Construction Estimator -

Southland Holdings is seeking an Estimator to join our fast growing team here at Southland! We are a multi-faceted industry leader and through our family of companies making up one of the world’s largest heavy civil construction firms.

Duties:

• Coordinate total estimating effort relevant to a particular bid/project as assigned
• Review proposal specifications, drawings, attend pre-bid meetings, etc. to determine scope of work and required contents of estimate
• Perform Risk and Contract Management responsibilities as required, review/incorporate historical data from purchase orders, subcontracts, productivity analysis reports, etc. into unit and man-hour figures
• Prepare discipline estimates by calculating complete takeoff of scope of work
• Consult with clients, vendors, or other individuals to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues
• May review design options and recommend best solution based on cost, engineering quality, or availability of materials
• Obtain knowledge of project and appropriate regulations required to construct the project to meet affirmative action requirements and DBE requirements, review list of work to be performed by subcontractors
• Review final estimate and apply strategic cost factors if necessary
• Prepare bids, select vendors and/or subcontractors and determine cost effectiveness of projects to be bid. Set productive, consistent, and acceptable work example.

• Good computer skills including an operating knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
• Familiarity with project scheduling software (MS Project or Primavera) and databases will be an advantage.
