Job summary
Southland Industries is seeking an Estimator Assistant to support preliminary budgets, conceptual and detailed estimates on smaller, less complex projects across our MEP-focused teams. You will analyze drawings, perform material take-offs, and provide unit cost pricing to help prepare accurate bid packages.
Ideal candidates will have a Bachelor’s in CM or Engineering, strong Excel/Word skills, and good writing and analytical abilities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred in CM or Engineering
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Good analytical skills
- Basic ability to interpret computerized cost data and systems
- Basic ability to read and understand specifications and drawings
- General knowledge of construction costs and principles
- Basic ability to perform mathematical calculations and apply fractions, percentages, ratios and prorations
- Basic drafting skills
- Competent Excel and Word skills
- Basic knowledge of QuickPen Auto Bid Mechanical and Sheet Metal Estimating software
Responsibilities
- Assists with preliminary budgets, conceptual estimates and detail estimates for smaller, less complex projects
- Assists with analysis of drawings and uses software to perform material take-offs and provide unit cost pricing
- Assists with developing project updates and bid package estimate documents’ comparison
- Tracks and adjusts quantities; assists with resolving discrepancies
- Assists with researching and compiling historical cost data and keeps database current for future estimates
- Maintains file of working project documents for back-up to estimating figures
- Responds to basic questions from internal managers
