Job summary

WSP is seeking an Early Career Electrical Engineer for our Phoenix, AZ office, with consideration for San Diego, CA. The role involves performing electrical studies and developing/troubleshooting SCADA systems for utility and industrial clients, focusing on power delivery projects.

You will engage in protective relaying, power system planning, and design studies, collaborating with cross-functional teams, traveling as needed, and supporting senior engineers with research and reporting.

Qualifications

  • Must be a recent Engineering graduate (Bachelor’s Degree) or enrolled in a university pursuing engineering
  • Analytical mindset with ability to exercise sound judgement in evaluating situations
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact with engineering and non-engineering audiences
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team to meet objectives
  • Proficiency with technical writing, office software, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets
  • EIT certification or progress toward PE is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Perform electrical studies and/or develop and troubleshoot SCADA systems for utility and industrial clients
  • Work on protective relaying, coordination, relay settings calculation and SCADA integration
  • Conduct power system planning studies including steady-state and dynamic analyses
  • Assist in design studies for grounding, insulation coordination, and power quality
  • Design and configure network paths for RTUs, relays, HMIs, PLCs, and protection systems
  • Travel to project sites to test and commission systems and data transfer schemes
  • Support senior engineers with research, documentation, and risk assessment
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams across project controls, procurement, and permitting
