Job summary

WSP USA is seeking an Early Career Civil Roadway Engineer to join the Herndon-Northern Virginia team. You will assist design teams, perform basic design tasks, and contribute to project documentation for transportation infrastructure.

Ideal candidates have a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering and up to 1 year of post-education experience, with strong communication and writing skills. Travel may be required; join a growing firm delivering diverse public and private projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or closely related discipline.
• 0 to 1 years of relevant post-education experience.
• Basic knowledge of engineering principles, practices, process, and design.
• Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
• Proficient self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
• Ability to work independently under general supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.

Responsibilities

• Assist and support design teams in the execution of project delivery on a range of project transportation types including highway construction and re-construction, complex interchanges, pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure, transit, innovative intersections, design-build, and more.
• Provide technical input during various stages of project, including preliminary design, final design and contract documentation including cost estimates and specifications.
• Perform basic design tasks, engineering calculations, and drawings using CAD tools.
• Coordinate and communicate with project teams, manager, and civil team; attend design meetings.
• Perform standard computations and analysis.
• Discuss and propose solutions to technical issues.
