Job summary

WSP in Northern Virginia is seeking an Early Career Civil Roadway Engineer to join the Herndon team. You will support design teams on highway, interchanges, pedestrian, and transit projects, delivering documentation and performing basic CAD tasks.

The role requires a Civil Engineering degree and up to 1 year of post-graduate experience, with a focus on safety, collaboration, and professional growth in a dynamic environment. Travel may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or closely related discipline.
• 0–1 year of relevant post-education experience.
• Basic knowledge of engineering principles, practices, process, and design.
• Competent interpersonal and communication skills for both engineering and non-engineering audiences.
• Proficient self-leadership with attention to detail, multitasking, and prioritization.
• Ability to work independently or as part of a team to meet objectives.
• Basic proficiency with technical writing, software, spreadsheets, and technology.
• Uphold workplace safety and WSP policies.
• Occasional travel may be required depending on project needs.

Responsibilities

• Assist and support design teams in project delivery for highway, interchanges, and pedestrian infrastructure.
• Provide technical input during preliminary design, final design, and documentation.
• Perform basic design tasks, engineering calculations, and CAD drawings.
• Coordinate with project teams, managers, and civil staff; attend team meetings.
• Develop memorandums and other written technical documents.
• Maintain positive team relationships and collaborate across disciplines.
