Job summary

Moffatt & Nichol is seeking an Entry Level Civil Engineer to join our Walnut Creek or Oakland team, supporting planning, design, and plan production for site development and infrastructure projects.

You will work under close supervision on structured assignments, building foundational knowledge and project workflows. This is an ideal opportunity for an early-career engineer to learn the fundamentals and grow into more independent design work.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering required.
• 0-2 years of experience.
• EIT/FE exam passage preferred and encouraged.
• Basic understanding of civil engineering fundamentals, including grading, drainage, stormwater, utilities, and site layout.
• Exposure to AutoCAD; learning MicroStation or Civil 3D.
• Familiarity with reading and interpreting engineering drawings, blueprints, and maps.
• Beginning understanding of soil composition, terrain analysis, and hydrological data; learning MN quality and documentation standards.
• All new hires will be required to successfully complete and pass a pre-employment background check.

Responsibilities

• Assist with preparation of engineering design documents, plans, and specifications under direct supervision.
• Prepare drawings and draft documents under direction.
• Collect and organize field data, reports, maps, aerial photographs, and geotechnical and hydrological data.
• Support feasibility studies and assembly of environmental impact data.
• Assist with cost calculations for labor and materials.
• Complete assigned tasks accurately and on time.
