Piper Companies is seeking a Jr. Network Engineer for a long-term contract opportunity with an established Healthcare Organization in Harrisburg, PA. This position is 100% onsite.
The Jr. Network Engineer will assist in maintaining and implementing network systems. The ideal candidate should have a passion for network technology, strong problem-solving skills, and a desire to learn in a dynamic environment.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in configuring and maintaining network equipment such as routers, switches, and firewalls.
- Monitor network performance and troubleshoot issues to ensure minimal downtime.
- Perform routine network upgrades and maintenance under supervision.
- Support network security by configuring access control lists (ACLs) and managing VPNs.
- Document network configurations, processes, and procedures.
- Help set up and maintain wireless networks and resolve connectivity issues.
- Collaborate with the IT team to implement network improvements.
- Provide technical support for network-related issues and resolve them promptly.
- Participate in disaster recovery planning and execute backup strategies.
- Stay updated on emerging networking technologies and best practices.
Qualifications:
- Basic understanding of networking protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, etc.).
- Experience with Fluke testing tools for cable testing and network configuration.
- Familiarity with network hardware such as routers, switches, and firewalls.
- Knowledge of network security concepts including VPNs, ACLs, and firewalls.
- Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively and follow instructions from senior engineers.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and tools.
- Relevant certifications like CompTIA Network+ or Cisco CCNA are a plus.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
Compensation:
- Rate: $30-$38 per hour, depending on experience.
