Job summary

FirstEnergy is hiring Journey Line Workers to support the distribution system across the service area, primarily in New Jersey. Work outdoors in all weather, travel to job sites, and operate a range of line equipment.

The role requires an apprenticeship completion, a Class A license by day one, and the ability to work long or irregular hours, including nights and weekends. Applicants should be at least 18 with a high school diploma or GED.

Qualifications

• Completion of line worker apprenticeship with approved documentation (e.g., IBEW Journeyman Lineman A Ticket).
• Possession of a valid Class A driving permit by first day of employment.
• Pass a DMV medical exam by first day of employment.
• Minimum age 18 years.
• High School diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience.
• Ability to wear company-provided PPE.
• Capacity to lift up to 100 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Travel to various job locations within the assigned region.
• Review job work requirements and provide input for the day.
• Load and unload tools, materials, and supplies into and out of vehicles at crew headquarters and job sites.
• Lifts, pulls, and carries insulators, cross-arms, equipment, tools, grounds, dampers, and other materials.
• Operate hydraulic equipment once certified and lift equipment such as aerial lifts and line truck booms.
• Operate forklift to load and unload work materials and supplies.
• Climb poles using boot hooks or aerial lift.
• Test, frame, set, and anchor poles; string power lines and install cross-arms.
• Perform substation switching; install and replace switches, protection equipment, insulators, meters, streetlights.
• Hang and energize transformers; take voltage readings.
• Troubleshoot problems on overhead or underground lines.
