Job summary

Yakima County is seeking a skilled Facilities Maintenance Specialist to service and repair HVAC systems, electrical components and building controls across county facilities.

The role covers diagnosing energy use, programming DDC controls, and coordinating with vendors on maintenance projects; requires a journey level license and state certification. The position is in the Facilities department and offers comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED and 5 years’ experience in building maintenance, incl. HVAC or electrical repair.
• Requires 06A HVAC/R Specialty Electrical License and EPA 608/609 refrigerant certification OR Washington State Journeyman Electrician license.
• Valid Washington State Driver’s License and proof of insurance, if requested.
• Successful completion of a comprehensive criminal history background and driving record check.

Responsibilities

• Repairs, tests, modifies and installs HVAC components and systems; reads HVAC blueprints.
• Monitors HVAC performance and energy use; maintains control systems and sequencing.
• Programs DDC computers; creates DDC floor plates and network graphics.
• Produces trend logs to diagnose HVAC problems and suggests maintenance.
• Plans and implements maintenance projects; meets with vendors and estimates costs.
• Trains staff in HVAC service tasks such as lubrication of components.
• Maintains electrical systems in buildings; installs and repairs wiring, switches and panels.
