Job description

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Maintenance and Repairs:
    • Perform complex repairs and maintenance on equipment, machinery, or vehicles.
    • Troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues.
    • Use hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, and specialized machinery as required.
  2. Quality Assurance:
    • Inspect completed work to ensure compliance with safety standards and manufacturer specifications.
    • Test equipment functionality after repairs or servicing.
    • Maintain high-quality workmanship with attention to detail.
  3. Customer Service:
    • Communicate effectively with customers to explain issues, required repairs, and maintenance recommendations.
    • Provide accurate estimates for time and costs related to repairs.
    • Address customer concerns professionally and promptly.
  4. Recordkeeping:
    • Document all work performed, including parts used and services completed.
    • Maintain accurate logs for preventive maintenance and repairs.
  5. Mentoring and Training:
    • Guide and support apprentices and junior technicians.
    • Share knowledge and ensure adherence to shop protocols and standards.
  6. Safety Compliance:
    • Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations within the shop environment.
    • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
    • Ensure the shop and workstations remain clean, organized, and hazard-free.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of a recognized apprenticeship program or equivalent experience.
  • Journeyman certification or license (as applicable by trade and location).
  • Extensive knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
  • Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and repair equipment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with specialized equipment or technology relevant to the shop's focus.
  • Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
  • Strong understanding of shop workflow and time management.
