Job summary

University of Houston seeks a Maintenance Technician to repair and maintain elevators, escalators, and related equipment across university facilities. The role involves scheduled preventive maintenance, timely response to call-backs, and reporting on repairs and inspections.

Ideal candidates will have a high school diploma or GED, a valid Texas driver’s license, and at least 1 year of related experience. Education may substitute experience; technical certifications are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Inspects and performs scheduled preventative maintenance on elevators, escalators, lifts, and related components.
  • Responds to call-backs and restores equipment to safe operating condition.
  • Operates elevator trade tools and equipment (voltammeter, amp probe, Meggers, tachometer, etc.).
  • Provides repair, inspection test, and preventative maintenance reports to supervisor.
  • Assists supervisor in ordering supplies and replacement parts when needed.
  • Maintains equipment rooms, pits, and car tops in safe condition; may perform cleaning/painting duties.
  • May join special task forces during emergencies (floods, storms, etc.).

Department: Preventive Maintenance Salary: Commensurate with Experience/Education

Description

Under general supervision, performs repairs and maintenance on elevators, escalators, dumb waiters and lifts in university owned buildings. Pursuant to the State of Texas Executive Order No. GA-48, this position researches, works on, or has access to critical infrastructure and requires the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the University infrastructure. This position requires personnel be routinely reviewed to determine whether or not criminal history or continuous connections for the government or political apparatus of a foreign adversary might prevent the employee from being able to maintain the security or integrity of the infrastructure.

  • Inspects and preforms scheduled preventative maintenance in elevators, escalators, lifts, and related components.
  • Responds to call-back/trouble calls in a timely manner and restores equipment to a safe operating condition.
  • Operates tools and equipment common to the elevator trade, such as voltammeter, amp probe, Meggers, tachometer, rotation meter, soldering irons, solid state logic probes, lap top troubleshooting computer and numerous power and hand tools.
  • Provides supervisor with repair, inspection test and preventative maintenance reports.
  • Assists supervisor in the ordering of supplies and replacement of parts as needed.
  • Maintains equipment machine rooms, pits and car tops in safe and working condition; may do cleaning and painting duties.
  • May be assigned to serve on special task force during periods of emergency, such as floods, storms, hurricanes, etc.
High School Diploma Or GED Required

THIS JOB REQUIRES A VALID TEXAS DRIVER'S LICENSE.

Department is willing to accept education in lieu of experience.

MQ: Requires a basic knowledge of grammar, spelling, punctuation and simple mathematical functions like percentages, ratios, etc. as might normally be acquired through attainment of a high school diploma or GED. Education verification will be conducted upon acceptance of an employment offer.

Experience: Requires a minimum of one (1) year of directly job-related experience.

Preferred: Preferred a minimum of two (2) years of directly job-related experience. Requires technical certification or licensing directly related to the job, as specified on a job description addendum.
